Why Are Over 40's Frustrated in Their Careers?

There is a feeling of frustration and anger that is brewing within Generation-X.

Why?

Because they are realising the career advice they were given by their Boomer parents no longer holds true.

If you’re in your 40’s and above then you need to throw out that outdated career success formula.

Stop burying yourself in the background, quietly working away, keeping your head down and not drawing attention to yourself.

It’s time to step up and amplify your voice because you’re coming into the command phase of your career, where you don’t just ‘do’ but can take the lead because you have a shit-tonne of expertise, experience and wisdom to offer.

Check out my video here where I discuss how that Boomer formula is holding you back from having a rewarding and fulfilling career.

As a career coach, I get to work with a lot of different people across a range of age groups. But what I am seeing out there is one group of people who are frustrated and angry but they keep it quiet.

That’s because many of them have been overlooked and under-represented in the market and workforce.

So, who is the group?

They are Generation-X and if you’re between the age of 40 to 60, then that’s you!

So why are they frustrated and angry?

Because their parents, The Boomers, well their formula for career success was study, get a degree, work hard and do a good job.

Your hard work will get noticed and you’ll become successful and climb the ladder.

So Gen-Xers have buried themselves in the background, quietly working away, keeping their heads down and not drawing attention to themselves because that’s what they were taught.

That ‘head-down-bum-up’ approach means that many Gen-Xers struggle to get the recognition they deserve because the Millennials, who are good at promoting themselves, are taking all the glory.

These Gen-Ys are loud and climbing the ladder, whilst the rest of the Gen-Xers are quietly working away and not making a fuss or noise.

Well I say enough is enough!

It’s time to step up and amplify your voice because you’re coming into the command phase of your career, where you don’t just ‘do’ but can take the lead because you have a shit-tonne of expertise, experience and wisdom to offer.

And that means you can become a force to be reckoned with.

So, if you’re feeling frustrated and possibly angry because you’re not at the level you want to be in your career, then stop following that outdated Boomer formula for success.

Gen-X, It’s time to claim your space!
